Turia Pitt is a beautiful young engineer from Australia, a burn survivor, motivational speaker, and the author of a book called “Everything to Live For”.
When I read Turia’s book, I was so intrigued by her bravery and determination to survive that I felt the need to meet her. I saw that she was organizing a trip to the Inca Trail to raise funds for a cause close to her heart that helps burn survivors, as well as people with cleft palates. I decided to join her in July of 2015.
After meeting and spending time with Turia, I was inspired by many of her qualities, but one of them in particular, her self-confidence. She carried herself in such a way, that by just smiling in another persons direction, she gained their compassion which in turn allowed them to see her from the inside out, rather than the outside in. This convinced me that with the proper support, burn survivors can become just as confident, and go on to Iive an extraordinary life.
In her words, “We have a choice, do you wait for a disaster to happen and then find out how extraordinary you are, or in this point in time do you say, I am extraordinary and there is more I have to give.”
