Today, we @umattersa had the privilege of bringing smiles and warmth to little hearts at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital’s Paediatric Burns Unit.

A heartfelt thank you to the Fourways Rotary Club and @good_morning_angels_94.2 (Jacaranda FM) PWC South Africa for bringing the magic of Christmas to the children at Baragwanath Hospital. The joy on their faces was the greatest gift we could have received this holiday season.

Meet Vutlhari: A story of strength and resilience! Vutlhari is currently undergoing laser treatments to help with his scars after a burn injury at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital. He was burned when a kettle of hot water accidentally fell on him when he was just 3 years old. He is 7 now and feeling grateful he was able to get the laser treatment. Around 60% of all burns in children under the age of 5 are caused by scalding, with hot water being a primary source. Let’s remember to keep our kids safe specially when they are in the kitchen. Nolwanle, whose name means “Mother of Oceans,” is a brave hero. After a tragic accident where she fell into hot water resulted in burns on her right arm, torso, back, and her leg. Despite these severe injuries, Nolwanle has been receiving burns laser treatment at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital and is making incredible progress.

This courageous young girl never fails to show her parents and everyone around her that she is recovering and getting stronger every day. Nolwanle is a warrior, she isn’t afraid of baths or fire, and she understands the importance of staying safe.

At just 3 years old, Orefile’s life changed after a kettle accident left him with severe burns on the right side of his face, torso, and leg. He has now been receiving burns laser treatment at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.

Meet Neo, a lively character who always makes his presence known when he visits the hospital. Neo’s journey began when he accidentally pulled a kettle with boiling water off the table, burning the left side of his face, arm, and torso. Despite the pain and challenges, Neo’s spirit remains unbroken.
Neo is currently receiving burns laser treatment at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital. His bravery inspires everyone around him. We are incredibly proud of Neo and grateful for the dedicated medical team providing his care.

🌟 Miamo’s Brave Journey 🌟
Late one night at around 10pm, Miamo got burnt by boiling water from the boiler. Her mother had placed the boiler on the stove to steam and was busy making Miamo a bottle of milk when she followed her into the kitchen without her noticing. Suddenly, she felt something telling her to turn around, and she saw Miamo’s whole right hand and arm were already in the boiling water. She jumped, pulled her hand out, and screamed for help. Her brother quickly pulled off Miamo’s pajamas, but some of her skin came off with it.
They rushed Miamo to the hospital to get treatment. Miamo is now receiving burns laser treatment at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.
